Star Wars: KOTOR Review

February 24, 2023

Whether you’re a newcomer to the Star Wars franchise or you’re a die-hard fan, there’s no better way to get a handle on the galaxy than by playing Knights of the Old Republic. This classic RPG was developed by BioWare and released by LucasArts back in 2003.

Despite its age, KOTOR is still one of the most interesting and compelling video games ever created. If you haven’t played it, I strongly encourage you to do so right now!

Graphics

The original KOTOR was one of BioWare’s best games during their golden years. However, the game’s graphics suffered from a few serious flaws that made it feel very dated.

Thankfully, there are some excellent graphical mods that can make the game look more modern and help players enjoy it without having to deal with a lot of the visual limitations it had when it was first released. Some of these mods even include new features that will keep gamers interested and coming back for more.

Graphics are one of the most important aspects of a video game, and they can make or break the overall experience. Fortunately, there are some great graphics mods that can turn KOTOR into a modern, high-definition RPG without the need for any significant hardware upgrades.

A few of the most popular graphical modifications include a high-definition character overhaul that will change the way characters look in the game. It also includes new high-quality textures that will make the game more detailed and realistic.

Sound

If you’ve ever watched a Star Wars movie, you’ll probably agree that the sound effects are one of its biggest selling points. There are countless spaceship launchings, lightsaber clashes, and other noises that bring the universe to life.

Many of these sounds were recorded and processed in order to create the perfect audio for each scene. That was done by a legendary sound designer called Ben Burtt.

He was the man who revolutionized the way soundtracks were made, taking inspiration from a variety of different locations and sound sources to capture that unique three-dimensional feel of the galaxy we all know and love.

Some of the most iconic sounds in Star Wars come from places we wouldn’t expect, like an old scuba diving regulator used to create the breathy tone of Darth Vader’s first breath or an astromech droid’s computer-processed voice. These were all incredibly unique sounds and required a lot of creativity to make them work for the film.

Gameplay

Unlike most Star Wars games, Knights of the Old Republic offered players unparalleled levels of player choice, making their character and decisions feel genuinely resonant. Whether they choose to destroy the Star Forge and become a Jedi hero or take control of it and transform into an all-powerful Sith Lord, players would have a huge impact on the game’s outcome.

The game also had a unique influence system, where companions reacted to the player’s actions and their ideals shifted towards the light or dark side. This gave players a deep connection to their characters that few other games before or since could match.

With a plethora of characters and planets to explore, the original KOTOR is a sprawling experience that is sure to appeal to longtime fans and newcomers alike. The team at Aspyr Media are behind a number of re-releases of previous LucasArts titles, so they are well-placed to remake the game for modern audiences.

Story

Star Wars: KOTOR is an action-adventure video game set several hundred years before the first three Star Wars movies. It was a unique take on the galaxy’s favorite space saga that caught on with fans, and has since been expanded into a comic book series, an upcoming MMO and even a line of action figures.

In Star Wars: KOTOR, you play as the Jedi Exile, who was forced to cut himself off from the Force after being expelled for war crimes. This threw him off balance and created a living wound in the Force that Darth Traya wants to exploit.

The story is a complex one, with players gaining Force alignment points depending on their actions and missions. They also gain access to specialized Force abilities when they raise enough influence with party members.
