If you are moving from an Android phone to an iPhone, you’ll need to get your contacts, photos, messages, video files, web bookmarks and mail accounts transferred over. That’s where Apple’s Move People app comes in.
The app has received a poor rating on the Google Play Store, but if you’re an Android user who has switched to iOS, it could be worth giving a try.
Send Locations
If you have iMessage and Maps installed on your iPhone, you can share your location with anyone. It’s a useful feature when you need to meet up with friends or family at a new place and don’t know the exact address.
If they’re not using iMessage, you can also use the built-in Google Maps app to send them a link that lets them find your location in real time. You can choose a duration, from 15 minutes to 8 hours.
There’s also a special feature on the iPhone called Emergency SOS, which automatically shares your location with emergency contacts whenever it’s triggered. It’s an easy way to let people know you’re okay, and it’s a handy safety feature for parents.
Share Favorites
The Favorites tab in the Phone app is an ideal place to store your most important contacts. Tapping them in the list lets you call, text or FaceTime them instantly.
However, the Favorites list can get a little crowded. Fortunately, you can rearrange your favorite contacts and make it easier to find them.
With iOS 13, the share sheet has become much more intelligent as it suggests your Favorites and offers a list of actions you can use, too. These are automatically generated based on your use of the phone, but you can also add new actions using Shortcuts and sort them by app or category.
To add an action to your Favorites, tap the green plus button. If you want to remove an action, tap the red minus button. To reorder your Favorites, touch the three lines icon and drag them up or down as needed. When you’re done, tap Done twice to save your changes.
Send Messages
The Messages app is the best way to send messages. Whether you’re sending a quick note or sharing an event you’ll be attending, it’s the most effective way to communicate on the go.
In the Messages app, there are several ways to make your message stand out from the rest. For example, you can animate your message with a bubble effect or fill the screen with confetti.
There’s also a new feature that is a little more sophisticated: collaborative messaging. Using this feature, you can collaborate with other users in the Messages app and share files on the go.
The Messages app is also the best way to send large files, like videos, photos and presentations. You can also easily edit them on the move. To get the most out of this feature, make sure you’re using a high-speed internet connection and your recipient is also on a Wi-Fi network. This will ensure your content is delivered quickly and without disruption.
Share Photos
Shared albums in the Photos app are a great way to share full-quality photos and videos with people you know. Any subscribers signed in to iCloud can like and comment on shared photos.
If you’re on a mobile device, you can use the AirDrop feature to transfer photos and video between iPhones and other devices. Just tap the photo or video you want to share and select a sharing option, such as AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or Notes.
On a supported model, you can also isolate the subject of a photo from the background. Touch and hold the subject, and it’ll flash a white outline.
Once you have a shiny white outline, tap Copy to copy it to the clipboard and paste it elsewhere, or share it by tapping Share. Alternatively, long-press any image and release to reveal a pop-up menu with options for copying or sharing the subject.
